Profit & Loss

The Profit & Loss (P&L) statement shows your business income, expenses, and net profit or loss for a selected period. Use it to understand how profitable your business is.

Navigate to Accounting → Reports and click the Profit & Loss card.

Page Controls

ControlDescription
FromStart date for the reporting period (DD-MM-YYYY)
ToEnd date for the reporting period (DD-MM-YYYY)
ExportDownload the Profit & Loss report
GenerateGenerate the report for the selected date range

Summary Cards

Four summary cards are displayed at the top after generating the report:

CardDescription
Total RevenueTotal income earned during the period (₹)
Total ExpensesTotal costs incurred during the period (₹)
Net Loss / Net ProfitRevenue minus Expenses — shows Net Loss (red) if expenses exceed revenue, or Net Profit (green) if revenue exceeds expenses (₹)
Profit MarginProfit margin percentage (%) — indicates profitability ratio

Report Header

The report displays:

  • Business name (e.g., "Demo Business")
  • Report title — "Profit & Loss Statement"
  • Period — "For the period [start date] to [end date]" (e.g., "For the period 01 December 2025 to 30 March 2026")

Revenue Section

The Revenue section lists all income accounts and their amounts:

AccountRevenue account name (e.g., Sales Revenue)
AmountTotal amount earned in that account during the period (₹)

The Total Revenue row shows the sum of all revenue accounts.


Expenses Section

The Expenses section lists all expense accounts and their amounts:

AmountTotal amount spent in that account during the period (₹)

The Total Expenses row shows the sum of all expense accounts.


How to Use

  1. Navigate to Reports from the sidebar
  2. Click the Profit & Loss card
  3. Set the From and To dates to define the reporting period
  4. Click Generate to load the report
  5. Review the summary cards for a quick overview
  6. Scroll down to see the Revenue and Expenses breakdown by account
  7. Click Export to download the report
